To play our role in advancing and scaling up locally led climate solutions, we are connecting World Bank knowledge with field-level operations through global, regional, and national initiatives to improve delivery of climate and development benefits and increase impact on the ground.

The Global Microfinance Initiative
The Global Microfinance Initiative is a new partnership between the Global Environmental Facility and the World Bank. Funded through $10 million from the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme, the initiative will support innovative microfinance solutions for sustainable livelihoods and jobs in seven countries: Brazil, Colombia, Madagascar, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Türkiye. Targeted capacity-building and technical assistance will be directed to microfinance institutions, governments, and local stakeholders, with a focus on Indigenous Peoples, women, and youth. Expected years for implementation are 2026-2029.

Regional Knowledge Exchanges
To promote peer-to-peer exchange and long-term partnerships for learning about locally led climate action amongst policymakers, the World Bank is organizing a series of regional events. These events will showcase lessons learned on implementation from around the world, including leveraging digital tools, integrating local and scientific knowledge on climate, strategic policy and institutional changes, and best practices for inclusive local engagement.
